Abertillery Aikido clubs aim is to up hold the Traditional side of Aikido. There is nothing wrong in continuing to practise the old way, as this fosters the true spirit of Aikido. We are always open to new idea's, provided they can be incorporated in to the current syllabus. The club has a full written constitution, and actively encourages it's members to take part in the day to day running of the club. We all have a shared interest in Aikido at all levels, and no one is left out. We are committed to an all round Aikido education both on and off the tatami (mat).
The club has a growing book & visual library, which is made available to all club members who wish to further their knowledge. As the club is more interested in the teaching of Aikido, than grade status, no student will be left out with regard to the recognition of their grade.Weapon instruction follows the Aikiken & Aikijo system. No deviations will be accepted, as this system is believed to be the closest to what the founder taught, as per Saito Sensei's interpretation. We, however will not practise anything other than what was demonstrated by Saito Sensei either in book or visual form. Abertillery Aikido club has no direct or indirect link to any Iwama style Dojo or organisation.
The club is always open for everyone to join, or participate, provided they accept and practise what is taught. We will not allow anyone to undermine what we are trying to achieve. There are many styles and clubs available for all. If we cannot offer what you require, we will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Aggressive Aikido will not be tolerated in any shape or form, although we do not offer the more softer edge of Aikido. It is our intention to demonstrate the use of hip movement at every opportunity, which can only be achieved through the use of weapon work and Taijutsu.
Abertillery Aikido Club is a non profit making club. No one gets paid for teaching, and no payments are made to any member of the clubs committee. Any monies which are outstanding, after the Dojo rent is paid will be set a side for the club membership as a whole. The Dojo-Cho will decide what should be done with the club fund. It is not the clubs intention to keep the money for a rainy day scenario. If the club needs equipment, books, video's, DVD's etc., these will be purchased. Or any subsidised event such as ten pin bowling to encourage a club building exercise then the money will be used for such an occasion.
